Wynn Smiley serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. ATO has more than 140 chapters across the United States and 140,000 living alumni around the world. As CEO, Wynn oversees the day to day operations of the National Fraternity. Given the life experiences and expectations of today’s college students, ATO National has developed and maintains a sophisticated communication and education strategy that deals with subjects ranging from proper business etiquette to risk management to strengthening personal faith. ATO’s forward leaning posture has been rewarded with multiple honors including a Smithsonian Citation for creativity in e-media.
In addition, the National Fraternity is the central depository for all member and chapter information. ATO has partnered with the University of Illinois library to maintain personal, chapter and National Fraternity history spanning its 150 years. Wynn has been a catalyst for fraternity liability insurance reforms with ATO leading the industry in compulsory binding arbitration, variable premium rates and coverage exclusions.
In 1997, after six years as ATO’s director of communications, Wynn became the chief executive officer of Alpha Tau Omega. In 2001, ATO founded and Wynn now serves as Chief Executive Officer of Richmond Property Group, a wholly controlled subsidiary of Alpha Tau Omega. The mission of RPG is to preserve ATO chapter houses for use by ATOs.
Wynn serves in several positions within the interfraternal community including president of the Fraternity Executives Association; a past member of the board of directors for the North-American Interfraternity Conference; the board of directors and past president of the Fraternal Information Programming Group; chairman of the Fraternity Sorority Coalition Assessment; and chairman of the NIC Standards Committee.
Wynn is a graduate of the University of Illinois. After graduation he worked as a television reporter, producer and moderator for a 30 minute weekly program focusing on national and state political leaders, their policies and practices. He is founder and president of Advisory, Incorporated which focuses on media development.
