Leadership in a Changing World: Adapting Today's Strategy to Meet the Needs of Tomorrow's Volunteers
Speaker: Tobi Johnson

The landscape of volunteerism is transforming before our eyes. New trends are disrupting business as usual while creating unprecedented opportunities to connect, collaborate, and mobilize volunteers for the greater good. Breakthrough insights from brain science and psychology reveal what truly inspires people to action and sustains their commitment over time. Meanwhile, emerging technologies enable us to automate and personalize volunteer experiences like never before, meeting supporters exactly where they are. Today's volunteers arrive with clear expectations about their involvement. More than ever, leaders must become skilled "architects of experience," drawing on cross-disciplinary thinking to advance their missions and create meaningful impact. As society evolves, so does volunteerism. How will today's societal shifts shape the needs and desires of your volunteer base? What can you do to address these needs—both now and into the future?

Join us for thought-provoking trends and actionable strategies that will help you focus your efforts on what truly matters.

You will learn:

  • Current forces shaping volunteerism – the unique challenges and opportunities facing membership-based associations today
  • Why community matters now more than ever – how building genuine connection may be the key to unlocking a new generation of volunteer talent
  • The evolution of digital engagement – how associations can level up their systems and strategies to meet rising expectations

From Experimentation to Infrastructure: Leading with Intention in an AI-Enabled Organization
Speaker: Steve Whitby

Leading a large organization today means making decisions in an environment that is changing faster than most governance models were designed for. When it comes to AI, the most difficult questions are rarely technical. They tend to surface in everyday moments of judgment, responsibility, and trust—often inside decisions that don’t look like “technology work” at all.

For large, member-based nonprofits, that quiet shift raises important leadership questions. How do you treat AI as a real organizational capability rather than a collection of tools? How do you use data at scale while preserving trust? And how do you help teams across generations make good judgments in moments where technology and human responsibility intersect?

This keynote looks at what it takes to move from informal experimentation to intentional infrastructure. Grounded in examples that resonate with both teams and members, the conversation focuses on pairing data, technology, and human expertise to improve decisions and open up new ways of working—without losing sight of culture, mission, or the relationships that matter most.
